House of Cards (originally titled Winter's Path) was my entry for National Novel Writing Month 2003 (NaNoWriMo). I am happy to say that I completed a 50,000+ word novel in under 30 days. Actually, I hit 50,011 words at 7:59 p.m. EST on November 20, 2003 (just in time for Friends *g*). The novel was 63,789 words on November 30 when NaNo ended and turned out to be 64,083 words after a small revision on the last chapter.
Do I think this novel is good enough to get published? Probably not. But, just in case, I am not publishing it in its entirety here on the web so that I do not give away my first publishing rights. What follows is the prologue and short excerpts from each chapter that comprise approximately 5 - 10% of the total novel.
House of Cards is a novel about waking up one day to realize your entire adult life has been, well, a house of cards.
